We are recruiting new Group Leaders

The Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology (IFB) is looking for external candidates for the position of Group Leader to establish new, independent research group and develop ambitious and innovative research programme at the cellular, molecular and biochemical levels, complementing the existing research at IFB.

The Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdansk and the Medical University of Gdansk (IFB UG & MUG) was established in 1993. The Faculty is a unique entity in Poland formed by two universities. IFB as well as both universities are constantly ranked as the highest quality considering research and teaching in Poland. The Faculty’s laboratories are located in the modern Institute of Biotechnology (UG Oliwa Campus) and the Institute of Medical Biotechnology and Experimental Oncology (MUG Campus). We are among the world pioneers in chaperone protein research, DNA replication, biogenesis and the degradation of protein complexes. Furthermore, we are a leading institution in Poland for conducting researchin molecular virology and bacterial plant pathogens. We are highly competitive in the fields of cancer research, immunology as well as photodynamic therapy. Access to the infrastructure of both universities, including core facilities and the most modern BSL3+ laboratory in Poland, offers a great opportunity for scientific development.

Gdansk and the “Tri-City”.
Together with Sopot and Gdynia, the beautiful city of Gdansk on the Baltic coast offers both historical town as well as great infrastructure, good transport links and an airport within easy reach. Gdansk offers both academic and cultural excitement as well as a modern lifestyle with a variety of entertainment options and miles of sandy beach.

IFB will provide a full-time salary with social benefits, lab space, access to state-of-the-art equipment, a lab manager and administrative support, PhD studentships from UG Doctoral School as well as start-up funds. The new research group will be expected to secure external national (for example First Team, FNP) and international funding (for example ERC Starting Grant). The grant applications will be supported by the IFB/UG.

  • the candidates are required to have a PhD degree and post-doctoral experience in a field of cellular/molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedicine, bioinformatics, chemistry or related fields as well as outstanding post-doctoral experience,
  • significant scientific achievements reflected by publications,
  • an independent research programme,
  • strong leadership skills complemented by ability to collaborate

  • Description of 1-3 most important scientific achievements (max. 2 pages),
  • Summary (max. 2 pages) of the applicant’s future research plans,
